Upcoming changes: Email-to-Text - July 31, 2024
Recently, Twilio has implemented a policy change in support of telecommunication carriers. This change, effective July 31st, 2024, affects the way commercial messages are delivered via email-to-text services.
HIGHLIGHTS:
1. Policy Change by Twilio: Twilio, our messaging service provider, is no longer allowing commercial messages to be sent via email-to-text, as of July 31st, 2024. This decision aligns with industry trends and regulations.
2. Past Challenges with Email-to-Text: Historically, email-to-text delivery has not been guaranteed. As Email-to-Text is a free service the telecommunication companies tend to throttle Email-to-Text, especially during peak hours. Resulting in users experiencing a delay in messages that were throttled. To address this, we previously added specific domains, (e.g., @mesg.telusmobility.com, @mms.telusmobility.com) to ensure direct delivery as native SMS messages.
3. No Major Change for End Users: While this adjustment occurs on our backend, the process for end users remains unchanged. For example, if a user receives alarm notifications via 4035551234@vzwpix.com, they will still receive these alarms. We will look at the domain (in this case, @vzwpix.com), strip it, and send the text directly to the phone number 4035551234.
4. Improved Real-Time Delivery: With native SMS, users can expect near real-time delivery without throttling delays.
ACTION REQUIRED:
- No User Changes Needed: End users do not need to make any adjustments. The transition will be seamless, and notifications will continue as usual.
